John Ross Palmer is a fifth-generation Texan that is known for his large, abstract paintings. When he creates landscapes, they always incorporate a very Western “big sky country” aesthetic with the actual land being a small fraction of the overall canvas. Enthusiast’s of Palmer’s artwork admire his ability to paint clouds. This skill of Palmer’s was first honed while studying at the Santa Reparata International School of Art in Florence, Italy, in 2000, and it is best documented in his breakthrough, surrealistic painting, “The Hand.” With Palmer’s landscapes, the clouds are mesmerizing and full of meaning.
